FAQ
What’s the difference between concreting and asphalting?
Concreting uses a cement-based mix that hardens into a rigid, long-lasting surface. Asphalt is a flexible material made from bitumen and aggregate. Concrete tends to be more durable for heavier loads, while asphalt is quicker to lay and repair. The choice often depends on traffic levels, site use and budget.
How long do I need to wait before using a new surface?
It depends on the material and weather. Concrete usually needs at least 24–48 hours before light foot traffic and 7 days before vehicles. Asphalt can often be driven on after 24 hours but continues to cure over time. Your contractor will let you know what’s safe for your specific job.
What kind of maintenance is needed once the job is done?
Both concrete and asphalt benefit from regular inspection and prompt attention to small issues. Sealing concrete can help protect against stains and weathering. Asphalt may need resealing every few years to prevent cracking. Keeping surfaces clean and clear of pooling water will also help extend their life.
Can you match the new surface to existing materials?
Matching is possible in many cases, especially with concrete, where different finishes and colours can be used. Asphalt can be blended in, but older sections may still show due to fading or wear. A site visit helps determine what can be matched and what might stand out slightly.
